Somebody Told Me, Rick Bragg

Selected newspaper stories from Bragg… mostly from his period with the NY Times in the 1990s. What is nice about newspaper stories… they are history – a sliver of time. Most of the selected works brings with it much sadness – people in trouble… ordinary people who found themselves, for so many reasons, in the path of life’s train. Some involve extraordinary events that occurred, some voices less so. What Bragg does so well is putting a human face on those who cannot speak for themselves. The clippings are divided into various headings and topics such as: Survivors; Prisoners; Hurtful things; Dark Secrets; Icons; Monuments; George Wallace; Oklahoma Bombings; Schoolyards; Living and Dying… etc. As always, Bragg is a Southern writer of the highest order.
