The Challenge

AstraZeneca sought a leadership development experience that went beyond traditional corporate training.

Their leadership team wanted to strengthen executive communication, improve collaboration across departments, and develop greater confidence when leading through uncertainty and high-pressure situations.

Like many organizations operating in complex, rapidly changing environments, their leaders needed practical strategies they could immediately apply—not theoretical leadership concepts that would be forgotten a week later.

The objective was clear:

  • Improve leadership communication.

  • Build executive presence.

  • Increase trust among leaders.

  • Help managers make better decisions under pressure.

  • Equip the team with tools that could be used long after the workshop concluded.

The Approach

Rather than delivering a lecture, Sean Burch designed an immersive leadership experience built around his Leadership Under Pressure™ Framework.

Drawing from decades of leading expeditions in some of the world's harshest environments—including Mount Everest, Antarctica, Mongolia, Nepal, and the Himalayas—Sean translated real-world decision making into practical leadership principles for today's executives.

The workshop combined:

  • Interactive leadership exercises

  • Scenario-based decision making

  • Executive communication coaching

  • Team collaboration challenges

  • Personal resilience strategies

  • Story-driven learning from extreme environments

Every exercise was intentionally designed to mirror challenges leaders face inside organizations:

  • communicating when information is incomplete,

  • maintaining composure during uncertainty,

  • leading through change,

  • building trust across teams,

  • and making confident decisions under pressure.

Instead of simply teaching leadership, participants experienced it.

Why This Approach Worked

The workshop focused on one fundamental belief:

Pressure doesn't create leaders—it reveals them.

Sean's Leadership Under Pressure™ Framework helps organizations develop leaders who can remain calm, think clearly, communicate effectively, and inspire confidence when stakes are highest.

Unlike many leadership programs that emphasize theory, this experience gave participants repeatable tools they could immediately implement within meetings, projects, and day-to-day leadership responsibilities.

The combination of adventure-based storytelling, behavioral psychology, resilience science, and executive coaching created a learning environment that was memorable, engaging, and highly applicable to corporate leadership.

Results

Following the program, participants reported stronger communication, increased confidence, and greater awareness of how their leadership behaviors influence team performance.

Key outcomes included:

  • Greater confidence leading difficult conversations

  • Improved executive presence

  • Stronger cross-functional collaboration

  • Increased awareness of communication blind spots

  • Practical tools for managing pressure and uncertainty

  • Higher engagement throughout the leadership team

Perhaps most importantly, leaders left with a common leadership language that could be applied across departments, improving consistency in decision making and communication.

Client Perspective

"I wanted to thank you for delivering such an engaging and insightful session on executive presence at our offsite. Your real-life examples and the way you connected the concepts to our day-to-day challenges truly resonated with both me and the team.

The framework of the three Cs, your obstacle exercise, and the mantra you shared have not only sparked new perspectives but also provided us with practical tools we can start using right away. Your session stood out as both inspirational and actionable—many of us have already had follow-up conversations about how we can bring more intentional presence into our roles.

If there are any outstanding logistics, such as payment or paperwork, please let us know and we’ll make sure everything is handled promptly.

Thank you again for your time, your energy, and for sharing your expertise with us. It made a real impact, and we hope to have the opportunity to work with you again in the future."

Kind regards,
